About Us
We are an organization that is determined to accomplish goals through decisive action.
Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity Incorporated is a national fraternity with chapters and colonies throughout
the United States. Sigma Beta Rho strives to instill in young men the ideals of society, brotherhood, and remembrance. Our organization is one of the most quickly growing fraternities in the country and includes brothers from a wide array of educational, ethnic, economic, and geographic backgrounds. Brothers of Sigma Beta Rho are united together in their committment towards serving the community and building life-lasting bonds between them. We belong to the University of Washington chapter of Sigma Beta Rho, which is based in Seattle.
As a fraternity that places strong emphasis on helping in the community, we are delighted to be forming a Youth Venture in conjunction with the Downtown Emergency Service Center - one of the premier homeless service organizations in the United States. Together, we hope to do the following together:
1.) DESC owns land throughout the Seattle area. Our fraternity hopes to work with DESC to turn that land into fertile gardens, replete with lush vegetation and vegetables. The purpose of these gardens is three-fold:
- Provide DESC homeless shelter residents, many of whom are mentally and physically impaired, with a garden that they can help maintain. This provides residents with a rich and wholesome social activity that connects them to their local community.
-Enable residents to harvest fresh vegetables from this garden, which will supplement their diets.
-Increase the scenic beauty of DESC-owned land, which benefits the shelter residents and the community as a whole.
2.) Host a summertime cookout for shelter residents. Our fraternity brothers would like to harvest vegetables from our gardens and cook a good meal for the residents. It promises to be a fun activity that will involve many people.
3.) Host several seminars on homelessness for students at the University of Washington. We'd like to talk to students of the university community about the issue of homelessness and what they can do to make a difference.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.
