About Us
A group of girls promoting education and technology to women
Well, it started when a woman from the safe house battered women's shelter came to talk at my school (An all girl school) and after hearing about the women, we offered whatever help we could. After working there for a while, we mentioned in passing that some of the girls who volunteer are technicians at the school. I guess this is the point where I talk about the school we attend. It is an all girl school that has technology integrated everywhere. Every student has a laptop and the student technicians repair all 1,000 laptops + desktops at the school. Anyways, back to the story. So from there, we decided that we could provide an old repaired laptop for the women. When it was realized that many of these women have never had any training on a computer and that many of them needed these skills to gain higher paying work, we decided that we would take a spare room and convert it to a craft room/computer lab. The craft area would be used to make, well crafts and other things (like jewelry) to provide some income for the safe house (a nondenominational non profit group). The Lab would have 6 computers with a printer and internet. During the week the school would have students volunteer to teach the computer classes to the women. This would give the women the knowledge and basic understandings of the computer to help her in a job career and in other areas. The children could also work on the computers and be home schooled from the safe house if the mother feels it is not safe to send the child to school. I could go on for a while, but it is all about empowering women who have seen some of the worst days in their lives from someone who said they loved them. After working with the women and children every girl has developed a close bond with these people who will pass in our lives after 6 months. It is in that time we want to bring a positive mark in their lives and hope that they will have better days with out help. So yes, the project is still kicking, fixing a few kinks in the room but all is well.
