Youth voices on tackling poverty “Be seen, Be heard”

Introduction
International Youth Day will be celebrated worldwide on 11and 12 August. This Year’s theme “Tackling Poverty Together” focuses on a high priority issue for young people globally. Youth organizations will organize activities highlighting the impact of poverty on their lives and the efforts to strengthen their role in poverty reduction initiatives. As in previous years, the Day will showcase the work of young people while drawing attention to the challenges they face. In Kisumu, we are organizing the day be celebrated on 11 August in partnership with different civil society organization to coincide with International Youth Day at UN Headquarters in New York and others all over the world, Cadifkenya, Rotaract club, and CRISSP, are humbly calling upon all stakeholders, civil society organization to join us as strong advocate for the need to acknowledge and recognize the central role youth play in efforts to end poverty at the global, national and local level. There will be the 5k walk, Youth testimonials— about their experiences and work towards eradicating poverty— will be the main part of the event. Along with
Opening remarks, including, performances, poetry reading , open forums, talent shows and sports from youth, from schools, out of schools and the community and a panel discussion with youth speakers will mark the at Jomo kenyatta

Aware that Young people between 15 and 24 are a quarter of the world’s working population but they make up half its unemployed today and of the increasing gap between the Youth, community members ,their capability and the high rate of drug and substance abuse ,HIV/Aids infection, poverty and social crime within our community and concerned ,experts say, to understand that at the centre of youth poverty is the need to address widespread youth unemployment Persuaded that this positive and noble conviction(the walk) will enable large number of young people allover Kisumu, Also to celebrate Youth Day, on Saturday, 11 August, a city Sporting tournament will be organized at the Jomo Kenyaata Ground between 1 and 6 pm. A number of the events will focus on creating a platform to enable interactive Sessions between government/ Civil society members and youth, as a means for youth voices to be reflected in future policies.
2.0 OBJECTIVE OF THE DAY
1) To mobilize the business community, civil society, the Youths and the entire the community to articulatively address the challenges and the escalating unemployment level affecting our youths
2) Assist the talented youths and street youth exploit their talent through awareness On drug Addict, HIV/Aids, reduced social crime, Drug trafficking among other risk
3) Promote coordination and networking between adolescents and youth, the government, and non-governmental organizations serving youth in Kisumu in the development, implementation and evaluation of national youth policies.
4) To raise and strengthens the voice of the voiceless (youth) create impact on issues & concern of their lives
