Présente-toi!

Hey people! My name is Laura, and I am a freshman at TULANE UNIVERSITY in New Orleans, LA. So excited. I love working with the city to make it a better place! I also am a SERVICE NERD.....all I ever read/do/think about doing is related to making the world a better place. After all, I think I figured out that's the meaning of life :)

Ahem, important stuff: I am the Executive Director of Wild and Water Swimming, a nonprofit organization that provides swim lessons for children who would otherwise not be able to afford them. We have served 181 kids as of 7/21/2008 and we'll be expanding beyond the Atlanta area to New Orleans (in September 2008) and Pensacola, FL and Mobile, AL (2009). Our mission is to provide swim lessons for kids who would otherwise not have the opportunity to benefit from them while engaging these children in a healthy activity in a safe environment with positive role models. In my opinion, WW is ESPECIALLY cool because we target a group that is typically not asked to serve...competitve athletes...and recruit them as volunteers.

  • Personal goals: To be the most effective "agent of change" I can be, to be a helpful resource for other ventures, to start a number of different ventures that combat problems/enhance good things the community as I find them, and to INSPIRE others to change the world! Venture goals: Make sure that every child in the Southeast has an opportunity to learn to swim, and thus reduce the chances that he will drown.
