Non-Profit group that helps kids prepare for disasters

Always Ready Kids (ARK) is a youth-run volunteer organization that helps young people and their families prepare for disasters. We do this by conducting safety-related projects. ARK's projects include presentations about disaster preparedness, distributing disaster preparedness information, and creating individual safety supply kits that include basic preparedness items.
In addition, ARK actively assists with disaster relief efforts. ARK has distributed hundreds of safety packets to youth of low income households. Over 12,500 people have participated in projects conducted by ARK. Also, ARK has raised over $20,000 for disaster relief efforts and has collected and sent over 3,000 books to a shelters.
ARK launched its ARK Preparedness Promise Campaign at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii last December. The goal of the Campaign is to raise awareness on preparedness and to have 20,000 youth promise to prepare an emergency supply kit. As part of the ARK Preparedness Campaign, ARK volunteers distribute fliers that contain information on how to prepare an emergency supply kit, and solicit promises from youth to prepare a kit. Those who promise to prepare an emergency supply kit receive an ARK Preparedness Promise bracelet, to encourage other youth to do the same. The Campaign has extended from coast to coast, with special projects this year at Columbine High school in Colorado and at Ground Zero in New York.
