About Us

We are a group who want to educate young kids ages 0-5 in literacy that are in poverty.

At my school, the six grade class writes and illustrates their own picture books. We want to take a copy of 5 or 6 really good ones and take the student and have them read to kids at a daycare called HeadStart. Then we will possibly make CDs of the children reading the book so the toddlers can listen while reading. Then we will donate these books to the HeadStart. That is our current proposal, that got passed!
We are going to run this for a while, and then, over the course of this year, may make another preposal. We meet every Wednesday, so if I get new info, I shall post it then or a day or two after.
Our overall goals are to:
Help kids in poverty to become literate.
To teach the 6th graders at MPA through a service learning project.
TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

3 Month Survey

Describe your recent Venture activities. What have you accomplished since selection?

We have passed our Venture, so now we have to go talk with the sixth graders and teach them about the project, and then we have to go to Headstart and read to the kids.

Have you faced any difficulties? Were you able to solve them? If so, how? If not, what would have been helpful to you?

Time management. It was hard to get everything in and done ontime. We kind of solved it, but it would have been better if we weren't pressured to finish it. We just had to do it quick so we could fit in this year's sixth graders

What upcoming plans do you have for your Venture? How will your Venture continue to benefit the community?

We plan to go and read to the kids. We plan to do this every year, so it will help out the underprivilaged children. It will also make people more aware of the idea (we hope).

Describe your relationship with your Ally and your Partner Organization.

Our ally, HeadStart, has accepted our idea gratefully. They think our idea is great. And then we have another ally, Jeff Ochs, who has lead us and pressured us to get things done. He has helped us through everything. Where we are right now is all thanks to him. Couldn't have done it without him.

Have you taken advantage of Youth Venture materials? Tell us your thoughts and ideas to make Youth Venture stronger!

We plan to use the materials given to us to help provide the children at Headstart with copies of the picture books, and to give them a snack to keep their attention (little kids loose attention when hungry). I currently cannot think of anything to make YV stronger. I think it works well right now.

What could Youth Venture do to help you even more?

Give us money to help out over the years when we need it, and to give us honest feedback, like what we did well and what could be improved.
