About Us

International student magazine with writers from all around the world. The magazine is distributed in various high schools throughout the USA/Germany

The school where this project began, Cranbrook, hosts German exchange students every year. In May, 2007, two of us decided to start an intercontinental project involving friends from both the Michigan area, and Munster, Germany. Since it is a boarding school, we quickly spread to the hometowns of other editors and writers. We’re now continuing to expand our base of writers and other contributors to the magazine – currently including France, United Arab Emirates, Norway, USA, Germany, Czech Republic, China, Malaysia.
Currently (as of late July), we are editing and completing our preview issue, which we will present to potential advertisers and other interested donators as a means of gaining more monetary support. This preview issue will be ready to print by mid-August.
We expect to be getting all articles for our first real issue by mid-September, and going to print by mid-October.

Our Team is looking for help with…

- Seeking potential advertisers who are targeting teen readers - Article contributions (being a writer) - Initial grants to kick-start our printing endeavors. We require around $2,500 to print 1000 copies each in the USA and Germany. Considering our potential advertising gains, as well as the magazine sale, we require around $1,500 to maintain stable financial security.

How does your group impact your community?

Barefoot Magazine provides a diverse media outlet for high school teenagers like us. We have ONLY teenage editors, contributors, and organizers that allow us to spread personal stories and international media to young adults our age. With this magazine, high schools can read and write for a magazine that combines a focus on the local news of EACH region the magazine sells at, along with personal stories of writers from all over the globe. This provides real, in-depth insight to ongoing events in the lives of teenagers in every country where contributors are located.

How many people have been impacted by your group?

Our expected circulation is 2000. We currently have 49 writers.

What we really enjoy about being young changemakers is...

All of us love writing, editing, and simply being a part of an intercontinental project. The title of a "young changemaker" isn't important. Binding teenagers from Germany, France, Norway, America, China, and other countries throughout the world is what matters. The media isn't about a certain viewpoint. It's the collection of all these viewpoints that create a picture of reality.
