Wilkommen to The People Could Fly Project!
My name is Intisar. I'm on a journey with my four sisters
Kalimah (videomaestro), Hanifah, Amenta, and Aisha
across continents on a mission to connect the latent and manifesting dreams of the youth of the African Diaspora, parallel cultures, and dreamers in general. The journey is based in themes of dreams, magic, and flight in a folktale told by African descended people. Author Virginia Hamilton tells this story in her tale of The People Could Fly.
In a nutshell there are Africans who fly. In slavery-times they forget how.. all except old man named Toby. He awakens their memory of freedom and the ones who fly lift out of the fields and away.
As a folktale this was an actual dream of hope, freedom, and flight, what Hamilton calls a story of wish-fulfillment.
In 2007 we are enacting this dream.. we are flying as the people could fly across waters, continents, and time to tell the story, our stories, and to dialogue and create with many about the importance of dreams and flight.. we speak of our collective powers as dreamers and people who make dreams reality.
We tell our stories as well as Hamilton's who passed away in 2002. Here we will be writing about the journey. This project is for everyone. We are documenting everyone of all race, creed, age, or gender who wish to speak about dreams.
