Youth Venture - India
Youth venture is inspiring, supporting and investing in young people between the ages of 12 to 24, globally; to launch initiatives and programs around social issues they are passionate about. This we believe will create a global culture of young people leading social change.
YV is stoking the spark, each of these young people has shown to be changemakers. We are nurturing their dreams and also providing them mentorship to help them initiate change in their communities.
Youth Venture in India
In India, Youth Venture has two programs: the YV Challenge and Change Looms.
The YV Challenge, first launching in Mumbai in 2007, is designed to inspire young people to create social change and support them in working together to design, launch and lead their own social ventures. The YV Challenge involves a 6-month cycle of workshops through which a diverse group of young people come together to develop Venture ideas and support each other as they field-test and then launch their Ventures. The YV Challenge process aims to provide the support necessary to ensure the success of youth teams and growth of the movement. It is conceived as a model to be held by the community – by the youth themselves, by peer advisors and advocates, by adults from the corporate and social sectors as advisors and mentors, and by participating academic institutions, social sector organizations and corporations as sponsors/co-owners. In spirit, we wish for the Youth Venture Challenge to bring out the whole community, much like the Mumbai Marathon.
Change Looms, a partnership of Youth Venture and Pravah (an Ashoka Fellow's organization), is a program that recognizes, encourages and supports the exceptional achievements of young people who are actively promoting social change in society. While there are numerous social change initiatives throughout India that involve youth groups, there are few efforts that support young people who wish to launch their own social change ideas. In order to better support early-stage young social entrepreneurs, Change Looms is designed as a year-long ‘incubator'. The program provides in-depth capacity building as well as mentoring and advisory support from leading social entrepreneurs across the country. Click here to learn more about Change Looms.
