YouTube Video Contest: Capture Your Live Moment

What is your Live moment?

Human Rights Live is launching a YouTube video contest that invites you to capture a moment – any moment – in which you succeed in making someone smile, or laugh (yes, by surprise or prank!) That’s all. The idea is to capture the extraordinary moments in everyday life, the expressions of freedom and the impulses of kindness that we see around us every day. Maybe it’s surprising your friend with a splash from a garden hose on a hot day, or cooking your girlfriend her favorite meal. Maybe it’s the surprised smile when you run into a friend unexpectedly on a busy street. Or your daughter’s wide grin when you hang up her artwork on the fridge.

This contest isn’t about selling a product. This isn’t about telling you what you need to be happy. It’s about celebrating the moments of happiness that are possible – that happen around us all the time - when people act toward each other with care and respect. It’s about celebrating the right to enjoy friendships, the right to have a family, the right to speak your mind and the right to be with the people you love. It’s about affirming the right to live in a place where you want to live, and the right to feel safe at work and at home. Most of all, the contest is about using your videos to recognize the universality of basic human rights and understanding how crucial they are to our ordinary experience.

The limits of your video are as broad as your imagination. You write, direct, and star in it, we are looking for any and all styles. The winner of the contest gets $100 and the chance to publicly reaffirm the rights that many of take for granted, and many of us lack – in other words, basic human freedom.
