Bio

The Met Center is a network of six small public high schools in Providence, RI. All Met students have tailored curricula and apply their academic learning at internships in the community. To date, The Met has inspired a national network of 30 similar schools, all founded by The Big Picture Company.
I’m an Americcorps VISTA working with Youth Venture and The Big Picture Co, based at the MET school on Peace St. By combining the resources of Y.V. and B.P. we’re creating a hybrid of youth activism that will let students to take their projects to a whole new level. Once started this model will spread to the other B.P. schools throughout the nation.

Goals

  • I want to reach out to YV alumni
  • I’m looking for any YV alumni in the Rhode Island area that might be interested in talking to high-school students about their ventures and what it was like going through the process.

Hey TJ,
Thanks for the message. I had an apartment in Patan (south of the Bagmati in KTM) and lived there from October '07 through April '08. I did some volunteer teaching, took some Nepali classes , and started most days riding with a group of Nepalis who loved (and were insanely good at) mountain biking. When were you there? Looking forward to meeting you at some point.
