Youth Venture

Hey everyone! Especially folks with the Changemaker Challenge in MN... I just started as a Changemaker Challenge coach which is exciting for two reasons- first, I'm studying to be a teacher and I really want to use social action lessons in my classroom, and second- I spent a year working with Youth Venture MN as an AmeriCorps member and it is amazing, like crazy wondrous amazing, to see the program I wrote grants for turn into a reality.

Some quick background- I got into YV after spending a year in Haifa, Israel where I interned at a training and empowerment organization for new nonprofits (Shatil). I brought back a very unexpected momento from Israel- my Russian-Israeli husband Marc. His immigration has been one of the most intense experiences of my life. When I'm not hanging out at school, dorkily and happily writing lesson plans, I play with textiles (embroidery, knitting, I want to learn how to weave cloth), read endless autobiographies from the 1890s, 1920s and 1960s, and tell myself that I need to practice my Hebrew.
