Bio

I founded the Climate Action Club at my school. We are working on numerous projects to mobilize our school and community to help fight global warming. Please visit our website at http://laclimateaction.webs.com . I am currently a junior in high school, and I plan to continue to be an activist and environmentalist throughout my life. I believe global warming is the defining issue of my generation, and my goal is to motivate and enable others to act.

Goals

  • I launched a venture in the last 12 months and could use help
  • I have started a venture and want to share insights
  • I want to continue working with the Climate Action Club to raise awareness in our community and make significant changes. I also want to network with other activists to share experience, ideas, results, etc...

Interests

True- long posts are good! Yeah, Maine isn't too far, and Hartford--well its practically next door. My school starts tomorrow =/ so the group will probably meet sometime next week, if not then the week after. I will definitely mention what you guys are doing, and seeing if we can get something like that going around here!

I agree unofficial partners sounds good, and thanks for your comments about the website! I've visited yours before, it looks awesome! I am toying with setting up a links page on the GT's website-- if you want I could easily put a link to your page on there too!

Keep in touch,
Jessie

Thanks for getting back to me! I checked out the video, it is awesome, so many facts and figures! I admire what you are doing, even if you have only had one meeting with your town's merchants-- even planting the idea in their heads takes courage. What did you discuss there? I would love t do something similar, but I was wondering what the laws are and can a store just decide to start charging for bags (or putting a tax on them)? If you were to set up a program like this, how would you do it. I really want to get an anti-plastic bag campaign going-- wouldn't it be cool if someday there was one nationwide? I think the whole creating a cloth bag with the store's logos on it would work well too, I know that around here people try to sell discount cards as fundraisers, instead of cards there could be bags- more environmental & you get a bit more for your money!

Green Teens focuses on a few things, right now we want to get the school cafeteria to stop using styrofoam and plastic, but that isn't an easy task considering our school caf wasn't built to wash anything. Other than that we have had a successful CFL exchange- where we got people to trade in their incandecent bulbs and we would give them CFL's for free and it was a huge success. Other than that we have held a few cloth bag workshops with younger kids and even out on our local streets to raise money and educate the public!

My e-mail is greenteensus@gmail.com and we just built the club a website http://www.greenteensusa.org (check it out- tell me what you think, though we did just start it). What you're doing is awesome, wouldn't it be cool if we could get a sister project going out here (by the way, Willington is in Connecticut- right near the main UCONN Campus in Storrs, it is a really small town though- so the group works with a few different towns)!

Great to hear from you, sorry this is soo long for a guestbook entry!
