About Us

The Action Network’s mission is to facilitate, develop, and sustain volunteerism.

Description
The Action Network, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization seeking to develop and facilitate volunteerism where it is lacked my most; in the inner city. We work with the non/for profit sectors and volunteers to ensure that:
(a) Individual volunteer,
(b) people volunteer in their interest areas while exploring other fields,
(c) volunteer opportunities are well coordinated,
(d) volunteers enjoy their experience,
(e) volunteers are well rewarded,
(f) and finally that volunteers return to volunteer regularly.
The Action Network acts as a facilitator to ensure the proper volunteer coordination between schools, community organizations, non-governmental organizations, and corporations. Further more TAN works with these entities to attract sizeable pools of new volunteers, the Action Network also works collaboratively with other not-for-profit entities to offer non-monetary rewards to those individuals who strive to better their communities.
Programs:
1. Current:

Our flagship program currently meets each Wednesday, at with about 15 students from Millennium High Schools from the Lower Manhattan part of New York City visit the Clinton Senior home for two hours of intergenerational program. Such activity include fun craft making, dancing, music, bonding and other activity with the elderly. For pictures of the event please visit. Picas.
2. Future:
--Incubator: We intend to extend the incubator program to accommodate students from various schools, as well as, other organizations from around the city. Students will get to log on to our site and choose which activity they are interested in and a RSVP will be placed into the system.
--Fellowship: TAN is currently creating a fellowship for the 2007-2008 school year. 10-15 students will be nominated from NYC high schools. They will meet on a weekly or bi-weekly basis at a different organization each time to volunteer for the duration of their meeting. Such activity may include street cleanup, peer education, working with homeless, and caring for needy animals.
--General Volunteering: TAN will recruit and distribute volunteers to organizations in the “Network.” TAN will recruit such individual needed and place them with organizations who need such volunteers.
--Ambassador Recruit: TAN will franchise its program to nonprofit organizations. They will be allowed recruit, and manage volunteers on TAN’s behalf. Volunteers will be trained and rewarded by TAN.
--Volunteer Credit*: Volunteers whom are part of the Network will be able to earn points as they volunteers. Such points can be redeemed at TAN for products that have been donated by corporations, or may also be redeemed at special partners such as Macy’s, Gap, etc.
Reward Program
The Action Network is implementing a volunteer reward program that is similar to those that already exist within larger organizations such as the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army, and many others. These organizations primarily give products to volunteers who have committed time, money, or services to the originations, such products among others, include tickets to sports event, t-shirts, pens, and coupons.
TAN will solicit donation of products and services from corporations of all size, collect these product and distribute these accordingly to individuals who have volunteered through TAN.
Vision & Values
Vision:
The Action Network (TAN) envisions a sociality where volunteering becomes a norm among the entire population. We envision a world where everyone volunteers, and through their volunteerism; the elderly is never not cared for, no public is unclean and no teen has never given back to the community.
TAN’s Values:
• Everyone should volunteer regularly,
• Volunteers should always enjoy their volunteering experience,
• Volunteers should properly be rewarded for their efforts.
