About Us

A team of middle & high school students who created the first NH Youth Conference on Volunteerism

NEW IN 2008,
The NH Board of Youth Volunteers Teams Up With The StarMight Foundation, The 25th Annual Governor's Conference on Volunteerism and Volunteer NH to bring the 2nd Annual NH Youth Conference On Volunteerism to middle and high school students Across The State!
In 2005, the StarMight Foundation, A 501c-3 NH Non-profit Organization,"Empowering Young People To Find Their Passions And Use Them To Make The World A Better Place," began an initiative called the New Hampshire Board of Youth Volunteers. For two years, 16 middle and high school students, representing 12 different NH schools, collaborated monthly to plan and implement the very first conference about volunteerism in NH designed BY youth FOR youth.
Their work continues today.....

Our Team is looking for help with…

the first NH Board of Youth Volunteers, was established to bring together youth volunteers, from grades 7-12, to plan, organize, and execute the very first NH Youth Conference on Volunteerism. This board of youth, from across the state of NH, serves as a network of young volunteers who exemplify the power of youth service and youth leadership.

How does your group impact your community?

The goal of this youth conference is to bring together students from across the state for a day of learning, networking and celebrating the power of youth and volunteerism.

How many people have been impacted by your group?

Well over 500 youth and adults from across the state of NH have been impacted by the work of the NH Board of Youth Volunteers and the workshops and seminars presented by the StarMight Foundation

Started the conference registration process much earlier than we did to allow for more people to register for the event.

Providing an exciting, informative and empowering youth conference on volunteerism that educated and inspired NH youth from across the state.

What upcoming plans do you have for your Venture? How will your Venture continue to benefit the community?

The NH Board of Youth Volunteers has now partnered with the Governor of NH and Volunteer NH to successfully present the first-ever youth/adult conference on volunteerism in 2008. We are in tlaks to continue the process in 2009

Describe your relationship with your Ally and your Partner Organization.

The StarMight Foundation is our partner organization that provided us with non-profit resources we would not otherwise have access to. Our Ally is always there to help us keep thinking and moving in a forward and positive direction.

Have you taken advantage of Youth Venture materials? Tell us your thoughts and ideas to make Youth Venture stronger!

Actually, we hired a youth ventrue alumni, Divine Bradley, to be our keynote speaker at this year's youth conference on volunteerism and he was AMAZING!

How would you like to continue your involvement with Youth Venture?

Become a YV ambassador (represent YV at events, in the media, etc.)

Describe your recent venture activities and accomplishments since selection? Have you received any recognition for your venture?

As the founder of the StarMight Foundation and the NH Youth Board of Volunteers, I was recently honored by being selected as a 2007 L'Orial Women of Worth National Honoree. http://www.womenofworth.com/honorees/honoreesSelect.aspx L'Orial made a $2,500 donation to the StarMight Foundation as part of that award process and the funds were used to help pay for the expenses of running the 2008 NH Youth Conference on Volunteerism!

Have you faced any difficulties? Were you able to solve them? If so, how? If not, what would have been helpful to you?

Financing the youth conference is always a great challenge and recruiting for the event is also very labor intensive. We call extensively on volunteer staff to help us meet our recruiting goals. We are hoping that the partnership with the Governor's Conference on Volunteerism will lead to additional support from the NH Dept of Education so that their office will help us spread the recruiting information directly to all NH middle and high schools in the future.

Have you begun thinking about longer-term planning?

The StarMight Foundation and the Youth Conference on Volunteerism were specifically designed to be collaborative and sustainable endeavors. This is my greatest wish for this organization and its programs: to continue to grow and provide programming for the youth of tomorrow so that they might be inspired by their peers and go on to make the world a better place. For the first year, the YCV was run almost entirely by the small, unpaid staff of the StarMight Foundation. Now that the event has been successfully launched, the future plan for this conference is to capitalize on its collaborative potential to ensure its sustainability. In 2008, through a new partnership with Volunteer NH, the NH Youth Conference on Volunteerism will be presented in conjunction with the Governor's Conference on Volunteerism and has already moved toward fulfilling my greatest wish for this program: its continuation and increasing influence across the state!

Describe your relationship with your Ally and your Partner Organization.

Personally, I have just been honored by being selected a 2008 National Honoree in the L'Oriel Women of Worth Awards. The StarMight Foundation received a $2,500 donation from L'Oriel as a result, and that money was used by the NH Board of Youth Volunteers to help run the 2008 Youth Conference on Volunteerism!

Have you attended in person or reviewed any of the events or trainings on our web site?

I actually was a guest Ally on a phone conference event where I spoke of my work with the NH Board of Youth Volunteers and on the subject of conference planning.

What could Youth Venture do to help you even more?

We would LOVE to have Youth Venture take an active role in future conferences by continuing to send local workshop presenters and possibly provide a national level keynote speaker for us for the 2009 conference!!

How would you like to continue your involvement with Youth Venture?

Serve as a panelist on a Youth Venture selection panel

Become a Youth Venture ambassador (represent Youth Venture at events, in the media, etc.)

Other ways you might continue your involvement with Youth Venture?

As a 24 youth old Youth Venture Alumni, and now a resident of the island of Hawaii, I would love to be involved in spreading the word about Youth Venture. I, too, am available for speaking engagements and have years of experience at organizing and directing youth confrences, workshops and speaking engagements.
