About Us
SeniorLink seeks to familiarize nursing home residents and other senior citizens with the computer.
SeniorLink seeks to familiarize nursing home residents with the computer. My grandfather passed away at Langhorne Gardens unexpectedly while we were on vacation. It hurt me to discover that he passed away alone, without love by his side. I made it my commitment to make sure that I would try to make sure that these residents never felt alone and without anything to do.
We believe that getting residents connected with the computer will keep the residents’ minds active and alert. Often residents’ minds deteriorate due to lack of interaction. They lose the desire to do anything else in life. Reaching out and teaching them new things, such as using the computer, will jump-start the passion within, as well as instill in them a sense of confidence and accomplishment which they may have forgotten.
We wish to teach the residents how to play games on the computer for starters, and then teach them how to surf the web for news, videos, and even email! This will enable an easier, more convenient and flexible way of keeping in touch. We will teach them the basics of the computer, including how to type. They will be able to type up letters for families, or even create holiday cards for the many charity events that we can host. Why not just use the online tutorials already established? These tutorials are full of computer-based jargon difficult to understand. SeniorLink will be more hands on; we learn things from the community and we should give back. This would be our contribution.
We intend to spread SeniorLink throughout the nursing homes in Bucks County as we recruit new members. Langhorne Gardens has already showed interest, and we can only imagine the giggles and laughs that the residents will have when they learn how to use the computer. This Venture will benefit the often-overlooked residents by integrating them within society. SeniorLink will also build a stronger connection between us, the ‘kids,’ the ‘elderly.’ The fundraising activities that will be organized with help bring the community together for a valuable purpose.
