Youth Venture

Our main goal is to prevent tobacco abuse by educating youth in a fun way they will understand. We want to youth ages 5-9 to be aware and healthy.

Our team was the first team to be launched after attending a Girl Scout Training Camp called Challenge and Change. It basically challenged normal girls (even in a small town like ours) to find something we were passionate about changing in our community. We all strongly dislike cigarettes and what they do to people' bodies so we decided to educate tobacco abuse to young children, so they will choose later in their lives to be healthy. We are trying to prevent kids from choosing to be unhealthy. We want them to know the facts. Our main goal is to prevent tobacco abuse in a fun way that is not only enjoyable, but easy for young kids to understand. We have created a story called Bucky the Bunny, which will be the center of the project. We want to send copies of this story, a puppet show movie (based on the story), a game (also based on the story) and a poster of Bucky the Bunny for kids to color in before and after he smoked. Reference, instruction and discussion sheets will be included. These kits will be sent to schools in NH for nurses or guidance conselors to teach to students grades 1-3, ages 5-9. The local Humanitarian Group in my school will sustain the project. To evaluate the success of the project, a quiz will be handed out after all discussion is over, to see what the kids have learned. Before the quiz is handed out, however, a review happen (which will be the game). We just need to look up NH state standards so the project will fit into the school curriculum!! Then, our team will be launched and started!
