Fundraising to purchase Hydraid water filters for families in the Dominican Republic

Our Interact chapter and district is fundraising to purchase Hydraid water filters for families in the Dominican Republic. Each filter costs only $32 and can give clean water to 10 people for 10 years or more. Through t-shirt sales, bake sales, garage sales, and a huge dinner fundraiser campaign (that last year raised $10,00+ for a daycare center in Panama), we can definitely purchase enough water filters to save hundreds, if not thousands, of lives.

How does your group impact your community?

We engage youth volunteers for all of our fundraising campaigns. Our entire project is student planned and student run.

How many people have been impacted by your group?

So far our project involves the entire Interact District 5170, the largest Interact District in the world, which consists of about 58 clubs and 6000 high school student members.

We could have launched Hydraid earlier at the beginning of the school year.

Looking back we did a great job at...

Our chapter can continue the legacy with another fantastic International Night fundraiser.

What we really enjoy about being young changemakers is...

We love being able to feel like we're making a difference and seeing the tangible results after the Interactors return from the service trip to distribute the materials.

What other youth networks are you involved in? What other websites do you belong to, other youth organizations, etc.?

I am a member of Interact, Future Business Leaders of America, California Scholarship Federation, National Honor Society and National French Honor Society.

We have raised money though tshirt sales and a trick or treat for Hydraid activity.

Have you faced any difficulties? Were you able to solve them? If so, how? If not, what would have been helpful to you?

We faced some difficulties in ordering shirts.

What upcoming plans do you have for your Venture? How will your Venture continue to benefit the community?

We have secured greeting cards to sell. We have also booked a venue and collected items to sell at a garage sale fundraiser.

Yes. Not sure if I have any suggestions at the moment.

What could Youth Venture do to help you even more?

I'd like to see some comment enabled pages so members can comment with tips on using YV materials.
