About Us
This venture was started by four girls committed to providing warmth for the homeless. We now have over 600 kids involved making hats and scarves.

Hats for the Homeless started with four girls, passionate about doing something for people who are in need. Today we have over 600 kids, parents and teachers participating in this venture. Hats for the Homeless is a program where students of middle school age are able to help give warmth and comfort to people less fortunate in our community. For some, Hats for the Homeless is a project where they can meet friends while sharing a passion for service, while for others it may be about the actual process of making each hat, scarf, and blanket. For the third year, more than 600 students from our school hace participated in cutting, sewing, and tying warm polar fleece to make hats, scarves, and blankets. This year (2008) we are giving away over 2000 hand made hats and scarves. Once the cold season really starts to settle over Colorado, (approximaly early November) we start to distribute what we've made to various homeless shelters around Fort Collins. The past two years, we have delivered a warm hat and scarf or blanket to every person receiving a Thanksgiving or Christmas meal in our local homeless shelters. Our goal is to continue this project with our middle school, involving and increasing the number of students, parents and teachers. We would also like to work with our local elementary schools, sharing our knowledge about homelessness and poverty in our state. We would also like to make this a long-term project with the materials and equipment to provide hats, scarves and blankets through-out the year. Colorado winters are long and the need for warm clothing is continuous.
