About Us

Increase graduation and college matriculation rates for students ni underprivileged areas.

GIVE’s objective is to increase graduation and college matriculation rate of students in underprivileged areas. GIVE is the right organization to help the students because our members are college students who can relate to the issues the students face. Many of us have grown up with similar problems. We can help by showing students the benefits of an enriching college education through college students who would hold presentations at these schools. A tour of college campuses would also be given where high school students can experience the college environment. We believe this, in combination with our presentations, will prevent graduation rates from further decreasing in these schools.
We are currently working at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn. According to the Department of Education Statistics, the institution is overcrowded with a 35-43% graduation rate in 2006, which is similar to other schools located in underprivileged areas in New York City. We have been working with 150 students biweekly since September and we were able to persuade the school to sponsor a trip for 50 students to Stony Brook University, where students experienced the college and what higher education has to offer. We hope to expand quickly to many other schools and college campuses by summer 2009. We are looking for college students who can help us in doing so both outside NYC and internationally. Presently, we are developing a chapter model that can allow this business model to propagate to more universities in the United States and abroad.
