Raising awareness for children in foster care

Leadership is a key aspect of life and has become a significant role in our lives. In the beginning of our sophmore year of high school, our english teacher presented us with the Quality of Life project. We were immediatley motivated to puruse this goal where we would become teenagers who make a difference. At first, we had a problem selecting a community issue because we felt there were many to be adressed. However, we both began to list what we could not live without and this came down to our families and education. What better way to connect the two than through the major issue of foster children? They lack stability in their lives which causes education and social dilemmas to occur.
We began the Quality of Life project and immediately contacted experts from various organizations such as the Administration for Childrens Services. There were many individuals who supplied us with valuable information on the lives children residing in foster care. One thing lead to another and we created a Book Drive for the children. Currently, we are contacting New York Cares so that they will aid us in the donation of the books. Youth Venture happened to notice us through this intriguing process.
We are very thankful for this opportunity to be teenage changemakers. As a Youth Venture team, we hope to become Youth Venture ambassadors so that others around the world can see that it only takes a determined mind and an open heart.
