Step It Up: A National Day of Action for Global Warming

Step it Up with Youth Venture and make every day a DAY OF ACTION

Youth Venture teamed up with Step it Up to help young people plan their DAY OF ACTION for Global Warming on November 3, 2007.

Step It Up is a campaign to bring communities together all across the country on the same day to show their collective support for taking national action to address global warming. On April 14, 2007, Step It Up organized the first day of national action and over 1,400 communities in all 50 states came together to rally around a the same message "Step It Up Congress! Cut Carbon 80% by 2050". This time around, Step It Up 2 was held Nov. 3, 2007 and called for real leadership on Climate change. Through the process of organizing an event within their town, Step It Up has been a catalyst for creating hundreds leaders out of people who were passionate about their environment and future.

For those of you who WANT TO DO MORE and are determined to bring about lasting, positive change EVERY DAY, YOUTH VENTURE CAN HELP YOU TO STEP IT UP TO A NEW LEVEL.

Youth Venture inspires and invests in youth to become social changemakers – thereby helping to change the local culture. Youth Venture provides coaching, resources, and seed funding (UP TO $1,000 per team) for teams of young people to create, launch, and LEAD SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY-BENEFITING clubs or organizations – otherwise known as Ventures. A VENTURE can be almost anything a young person feels passionate about, and since REDUCING GLOBAL WARMING is the greatest challenge facing our generation, organizing in order to create positive change through Step It Upis a great opportunity.

So what does a Venture include? Well here are some guidelines:

• Be created by, run by, and managed by youth ages 12-20;
• Be a new club, service, or organization;
• Provide a positive, lasting benefit to your community;
• Have clear goals, a committed team, and a clear and realistic budget;
• Have a non-controlling adult Ally who works with the team.
