D.I.D.I. Summer Camp
D.I.D.I. Summer Camp Teams Launch!!
The D.I.D.I Initiative held a four-week virtual summer camp in Teen Second Life, where campers from across the U.S. and Europe came together two hours a day, Monday through Friday, to discuss local and global issues, learn how to take action to create change, and enjoy fun activities that included a contest to build the wackiest virtual camp tent and medieval jousting on horseback!
The main focus of the camp was of course on creating and launching Ventures! The campers brainstormed Venture ideas, built teams, and wrote Action Plans in time to present their ideas to a Selection Panel the final week of camp. The following five teams are now launching, and one more is in the works!
[Gangs in Uniform]
The purpose of Gangs in Uniform is to raise awareness in the U.S. of the problem of gang members joining the military not for obedience, but for the training and access to weapons.
C.R.N.Tegan
The team plans to raise awareness about the need for more bicycle lanes on busy roads and towards schools and main places in the community so that kids can safely bicycle to school. They will then work with their community and town representatives to build bicycle lanes.
Hands and Paws Alliance
Hands and Paws Alliance will use Teen Second Life to raise awareness about animal abuse and show people what they can do to help stop it by building an exhibit with photos, videos, and informational cards. After building a community of supporters in TSL, the team will hold fundraising events and educational workshops on animal abuse.
Profound Hams
Profound Hams will be a business with a cause. The team is opening a store in Teen Second Life and will be providing building and scripting services. Profits from the business will be donated to charity.
Team PlayWright
Team PlayWright will be a theater group in Teen Second Life. The group will write and produce plays in TSL about HIV/AIDS and homosexuals in order to show the affects HIV/AIDS can have and how homosexuals are impacted by the disease.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE TEAMS!
