So things have been happening over the course of the week. I now have two more teams, Theory Design (a airbrush design studio) and Definition (an after school dance program). I’m finding that having one panel per team is working a lot better then having one huge panel with 5 teams presenting (it’s a lot easier to get someone when they know they’ll only be there for about an hour).
I ended up talking to Steph yesterday about YV stuff. It’s such a great organization but there’s definitely things that needs to be tweaked. I’m going to talk to the BOA today and do some information gathering, I want to find out if it would be a possibility to start giving debit cards to the Ventures instead of sending them a check (this would make it SO much easier to track purchases and control the funding. I think it would help them keep track of how their spending their Venture $ which in the long run would definitely help their organization). How cool would that be if we could come up with our own YV debit cards? I really want to look into this, I think that it’s needed, especially as we work with our expansion. Also I really want to start working on the methodology that YV uses, I feel like the approach we use to reach these kids isn’t hitting the demographic we’re aiming for. I would really like to see us get more involved directly with what the students are doing. I also want to start doing some research about the website, whenever I direct teacher and students to it they always seem to come back to me a little confused. I am super excited about my teams that are up and running, the school store is going well and Theory Design is already getting commissions from the community. ALSO! I have this team the “Re-Psychos” coming up, an environmental group that’s going to start up the recycling program here at Peace St. They’re in charge of PMU and KMO next week, here’s what they’re going to do: They’re going to set up recycling boxes throughout the school and announce for students to dispose of their paper waste in those baskets. At the end of every day they’re going to weigh how much paper the school wasted for that day (they’ll also hopefully put up a big chart and track publicly how much paper each advisory is wasting). They’ll do that all week, then on Friday they’re going to split the room down the middle and all that paper we wasted is going to be split into two huge crumpled piles, one on each side. For ten minute each side is going to go nuts and get as much paper as they can on the other side. After that they’re going to bring it all together and essentially say “look, this is what we’re doing as a school every week to our community when we don’t recycle”. I’m SO excited for this to go down, I’ll definitely be taking pictures and video (we’ll be compiling this for a Re-Psycho’s Video and also for the MET Venture Video for the end of the year). I have a bunch of pics to put up but no cord to connect my camera to my computer, once that’s set I’ll post them.
