Re: Fundraising
Right now, the biggest thing I'm doing to raise money for my arts project as a part of my venture is grant writing - I believe I posted a rough copy of my grant on my profile. I have found that just asking for money straight up from local art institutes is the best way to go - they've told me that that is what they're there for. It just takes some shameless self-marketing :)
Re: Fundraising
Is it better to talk to art institutes face-to-face, on the phone, or through written communication? Depending on what kind of venture you do, you can fundraise by marketing your skills. My brother and I have done face-painting. You could also sell jewelry, do an art auction, or a craft class.

Re: Fundraising
I have done many fundraisers over the years, but one that I stumbled upon a while ago while fundraising for Green Teens that worked very well was actually a garage sale. In fact, I hope to have another soon because I am trying to raise money for myself to go and study the environment & leadership in Australia this summer for a few weeks! I plan on holding this again. What I did was invite everyone in the club to bring some old stuff that was still in good condition to the flea market (there is one in a town next to mine every sunday- hundreds of people go, and it is like one big garage sale) where we rented a booth and sold our stuff. It worked great because we raised a ton of money, and promoted the idea of a recycling center, since people were buying books and other cool things from us second hand!
Anyone have any other good ideas?

Re: Fundraising
That's a great idea Jessie! How much does renting a booth at the flea market cost?
I've done face-painting at local festivals to raise money for JJ Express and it is an amazing money maker if you do it at the right place. We hope to be able to do it again at the National Zoo in May for free, and to get the word out about our venture!

Re: Fundraising
Thanks, I know that it isn't quite the artsy-est thing. But it helps out a lot. It costs $20 a day for a booth, which really isn't to bad compared to what you can make. Goodluck with the face painting, I am sure you get a lot of people at the national zoo, I was there with my school in November and even though it was raining, it was still very croweded!

Re: Fundraising
Another idea for a magazine or any type of publication could be to sell advertising space. You wouldn't be able to charge a whole lot of money, but if you sold cheap youth-directed advertising to a few local businesses, that could generate enough cash to cover some printing costs.
