Art in one’s life
The Art in one’s life can in itself, be so fondly remembered, as much as the big banyan tree in the backyard, or the Sunday cartoons on the tele. We cherish like many others do, the times spent in our room, with a brush, a paper and a water color palette; along with a multitude of images that seem to form on our walls. After a three hour long ordeal, during which we would have successfully weathered the summer afternoon much to the elation of our mother that we stayed indoors, the painting would not resemble, even on close inspection, the picture we had drew in my mind. But when we are our own judge, we choose not to be as rigid as the teachers are when awarding marks; we would sign with a good and an initial of V take it to our mother for her to see. This one small incident makes us nostalgic when we recollect the long summer vacations, or the rainy days that forced everyone indoors. We felt, somewhere down the line that a picture of a house under the mountains was such an important part of our life. We felt we never had enough of it and we still carry the same feeling.
The Art in one’s life can be so important to him that it goes a long way, ages after we give in to other vagaries of life, and reminds one that he was once a child with an empty paper in a room or one among many in the group dance during annual day or was one day stealthily clicking photos using the camera without telling dad which would be his personal masterpiece when developed. If one does something or anything, and sure as a day turning into night, the actions would be played in the dreams. And that is where we still keep hearing, we haven’t had enough.
Art surrounds us in many and varied forms. It is a melting pot of talents and helps one unwind. An artist who pursues about a dozen art forms is quoted here as saying, “It is the madness that drives me to do so many things. And in each art that I take up, I find a deeper meaning and respect for the other. It’s beyond imagination, how each of them forms a confluence of personalities in a human being and makes one complete.”
We have so many arts around, evolved and diversified from the very early prehistoric ages when man used to carve out figures of hunting and game, to today where anything that you apply your mind in, using your imagination, can be deemed as art. The pace of change, I reckon has mislaid the sense of artists, who come and go, but can only leave a lasting impression by the work that they create. The relationship between an Art and its Artists, or an Artist and his Art, is intangible piece of connect woven around what feeds the minds of a whole generation after generation of people. The artist gains from his art; fame, recognition, satisfaction and passion; all of which further his chosen field itself, in a manner of symbiotic relationship. We just brought out a brief insight into the art and artist relationship, and hopefully the gyan benefited some of those who had a skewed perspective of it.
In our world, art education is in its infancy but is poised for a brogdingnagian leap, akin to exploring an entire continent. There isn’t much of support in this field; neither are established programs or full fledged curriculums; neither are a lot of people talking about. As the undisputed currency, the people of the world today assay a conversation on topics like the latest cinemas and gossips, leaving far more imaginative and thought probing creative indulgences far far behind. But having made forays into the field of education in trying to address the much needed issue of introduction of art at an early level, art might soon change people’s lives. We at United Arts Society are striving to push this agenda of ours across the sections and the layers of the society. Beginning with children who are the most receptive and at the right bend of their lives to pick up something new and pursue it in earnest.
