Wowee! First blog for the Jones College Prep Student Foundation!!!
So here's the story:
Due to lack of interest, we, the founding members of the Foundation, find ourselves doing our very own community service projects this summer:
- Amanda will be serving lunch at a tutoring program that is local to her (I'm sure she can post about that later).
-I'm organizing a group of students (Amanda and Stephanie included!) who will make blankets for Project Linus. For those who don't know, Project Linus is an organization that takes blankets (that are hand-made by people like us) and distributes them to children's hospitals and to children who are ill or who have experienced a loss. I hope to involve both students from Jones and kids from my community (through my Girl Scout troop- this way we can involve younger girls, too).
-I'm also organizing a dinner at the homeless shelter I volunteer at from time to time. (The dinner will probably take place in the Fall, however, because I'm fairly sure the shelter doesn't operate in the Summer.)
We've put out a few ads in church bulletins and have recieved MANY donations of yarn. This will be used to make baby blankets. My mom and I also went fabric shopping today.
I'll be contacting people very soon so we can get together and make some fabulous blankets.
