Re: Youth Empowerment?
I also think that it means enabling youth to have the power to change their (ie everybody's) world. I posted a forum on Let's Discuss that Jane Addams (1890s social activist) wrote about youth empowerment and I'm looking to hear people's opinions and postings on other inspirational literary figures. Check it out!
Re: Youth Empowerment?
I would agree with the above, but true youth empowerment will not only help youth it well help the adults as well. Youth empowerment is giving youth the opportunity, information and support they need and then allowing them to take over and make their own decisions for themselves, and their projects. For an adult to empower a youth they truely need to listen to what the youth says and act on it.

Re: Youth Empowerment?
I agree with each of your ideas on youth empowerment. Put simply, I think youth empowerment means exactly what it says: enabling youth to feel and know they are powerful. I think power comes from having the ability to make different choices and to hold the belief that your choices can impact your future as well as others'. If a person does not feel powerful, I imagine he/she might feel like nothing she does matters. An empowered person knows he has the ability to positively impact his and others' futures.
Re: Youth Empowerment?
I BELIEVE THE YOUTH SHOULD BE FULLY EQUIPPED TO TAKE CHARGE OF THEIR OWN AFFAIRS AND STEER INTO THE FUTURE, HAVING GREATER CONFIDENCE IN THEIR ABILITIES TO SUCEED. THIS FOR ME IS YOUTH EMPOWERMENT!
THIS WAY, I BELIEVE THE WORLD WILL BE FREE FROM ALOT OF THE VICES AND EXTREMISM THAT ARE OFTEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE YOUTH.
Jah Bless all youth!
Re: Youth Empowerment?
It means building up the capacity of young people to face the challenges of the day and how to over come them in an appropriate way which will yield good outcome
Re: Youth Empowerment?
I think all of these ideas are right-- and that there are many ways to look at youth empowerment. I think something that makes this notion so successful is that youth all over the world see other youth, like members of youth venture, working to acheive their goals (and not stopping at anything). This inspires the onlookers to take action as well, which is why we can call youth empowerment a movement-- youth are contantly being inspired to join up and take action!
