Evaluation is the process of “checking-in” on your Venture. It helps you measure your Venture’s impact and determine if your Venture has met its goals. The evaluation process also provides your team with an opportunity to verbalize what is and isn’t working. Through evaluation, your team can celebrate its victories and strengths, and identify weaknesses so they can be fixed.

Ways to evaluate your team’s progress:

  • Review the goals that you established on your Action Plan. Have you accomplished each goal? If no, determine what needs to done. If your goals have changed, restate them.
  • Complete the Youth Venture 3 and 12 month Progress Reports. YV asks that your team give us updates after launching your Venture. This is a great time to re-evaluate your Venture. Have you accomplished what you wanted to in that time period?
  • Surveys can be given to volunteers and participants. Surveys are especially useful when used to measure the success of an event. The Youth Venture tool Sample Event Survey provides an example survey for your reference.
  • Organize a discussion group. A discussion group is a small group of people who are brought together to give feedback and opinions on a certain topic. For example, after a workshop, you may want to have a discussion group on the effectiveness of the workshop.
  • Set up interviews with members of your team, volunteers, or the people you serve. It is a good idea to think of some questions before you conduct the interview. These questions can be the same for every interview, to insure that the way the question is phrased doesn’t bias anyone’s answers, or they can be informal talking points to help the person being interviewed start thinking about what they want to say. A few examples of general questions are: “What do you like best about the Venture?” “What would you change about the Venture?” and “Where do you see the Venture in two years?”.
