Re Opening in Fall 2008

So the non denominational church, Healing Place, has officially taken over Safe House. After months of talks and paper work they have signed on for the project. There was a fear that the shelter would no longer be for women, but they have decided to stick with it. I have talked to the coordinator and right now she said that they will be going through major remodeling of the building. This involves fixing the roof, getting power to the 2nd floor, and just in general making the building more livable.

So, the last time I posted there was a since of turmoil at the Safe House. Well, some things have finally cleared up. As of now, Safe House will be run by a new Church called Healing Place. Now for those that do not know, Healing Place is a non denominational church that has the motto, ‘healing a hurting world.’ I was told around May that the Safe House would probably be taken by them, but the papers were never signed. Well, they (the papers) are still not signed, but it is official now. I called up the person organizing Safe House at Healing Place to see what was going on.

The Politics of Non Profits

In these last few months I have experienced many pains in the Youth Venture group Safe House Group due to politics.

It feels like the stereotypical event: a group of idealistic kids come in and are beaten with the greed of politics. However, I refuse to believe that we are beaten. In turn I will tell of the event and try to spare others from our misfortune.
