Bio

Tim Chai is a student in the Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business, a dual-degree (B.S.E./B.A.) program between The Wharton School and the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania. He is particularly interested in the intersection between business and philanthropy, especially philanthrocapitalism and microfinance, and human rights, specifically education and social rights. He has had work experience in both the public and private sectors.

Currently serving on the executive team as the Public Relations Director, Tim manages PR and special events for the non-profit Givology, an online marketplace improving access and quality of education in the developing world through microphilanthropy. He also works in Marketing and Development for the What's Your Issue Foundation, implementing the social media strategy for the Film Your Issue competition. Tim's other public sector work includes the Youth Advisory Council with Do Something, for which he also serves on the Marketing Committee and the International Expansion Committee, the Impact Network for America's Promise Alliance, and several local and school-based volunteer organizations. In the private sector, Tim has worked in marketing/communications at Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH)’s Chinese headquarters in Shanghai, and finance/logistics at Anna Sui Corporation in New York City.

In his free time, Tim enjoys playing the violin, volunteering in his local community, reading blogs (On the Ground by Nicholas Kristof, Talking World Affairs by Thomas L. Friedman and The Sartorialist by Scott Schuman), and having rambling and oftentimes inane conversations with his friends.
