For three years, Youth Venture has partnered with NYU’s Catherine B. Reynolds Program for Social Entrepreneurship to bring to undergraduate students the “Be A Changemaker” Challenge. Interested students from any NYU undergraduate school -in teams of two or more- outline their social venture idea by completing and submitting an Action Plan. Each team that successfully completes an Action Plan with advising from Youth Venture, receives $1000 in seed-funding and competes for a $10,000 grand award.
This year the recipient of the $10,000 award is the First Aid Comedy Brigade.
The First Aid Comedy Brigade, led by Zach Lee, a sophomore at Steinhardt, is an organization of comedy improvisation troupes that aims to be the first student-run movement to provide free and interactive shows for patients of children’s hospitals around the nation. Currently operating solely in New York City, the group plans for official expansion this September.
The First Aid Comedy Brigade seeks to expand to other comedy groups at Universities across the United States. Each new Brigade will receive the same materials (t-shirts, basic set design, etc.), thereby unifying all chapters across the country in a franchise model, bringing the trusted formula and name to each college and partner hospital across the country.
