Bio
Matthew is a junior at Kenyon College majoring in English and sociology. He is the founder and president of the Kenyon College Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and director of the Center on Voting Reform, with the Kenyon College Roosevelt Institution. During the summer and fall of 2006, he worked as a legislative assistant at the federal and legislative arm of the NAACP in Washington DC, interviewing members of Congress about their suggestions for improving voter turnout. Matthew has channeled this research into a non-profit student-led venture called SAVE (Student Association for Voter Empowerment).
Goals
- I launched a venture in the last 12 months and could use help
- We are recruiting those interested in our helping our mission which is to: • Promote civic engagement and thoughtful voting among our young citizens ages 18-35; • Evaluate federal, state and local election laws, and community and state enforcement, to ensure full electoral participation among this age group; • Develop and promote a targeted civic curriculum designed to encourage thoughtful, strategic analysis prior to voting, which would include an historic understanding of voting in democratic societies from antiquity to the present, and • Advocate civic engagement for young Americans through an organization conceived of, developed, and lead by their peers.
