About Us

Our team does 2 broadway revues a year, giving kids the opportunity to do a safe substance free activity.

We started the team after seeing that so many kids needed a safe place to be a part of. In our area the only activities were school based activities. If you did not play sports or make it into the school play or chorus then you fell through the cracks. We knew that these were the kids that would be at risk and wanted to provide them with a safe positive place to be. We are doing Broadway Revues, picking songs from 4 different shows, rehearsing and performing them for the community. Everyone that auditions for our shows gets a part. We are currently starting our third show and it promises to be the best yet. The best part about this team is watching the positive energy, and how the older kids mentor the younger ones by showing them that positive choices are rewarding.

How does your group impact your community?

We are giving the kids in our community a place to enjoy other kids in a safe poitive substance free enviroment. The younger kids are mentored by the older kids that living a healthy positive, substance free life is rewarding and fun. We are also providing a place of entertainment by doing 2 broadway revues a year.

How many people have been impacted by your group?

We have grown from 14 kids to now having 32 in our next show. These kids have impacted our entire community by spreading our mission statement to stay substance free, and to help others. A lot of people in the community have come to see our shows.

Looking back we did a great job at...

partnering with The Sad Cafe in Plaistow, NH to get our mission statement out to our community. The Sad Cafe is a music venue that also has the same mission statement of living substance free. They are also the home of a large community substance coalition that doe a lot of work in our local high schools.

What we really enjoy about being young changemakers is...

meeting new people and seeing kids that would have been at risk coming into our group and seeing the rewards of living substance free.

What other youth networks are you involved in? What other websites do you belong to, other youth organizations, etc.?

We are members with Youth Service America and Do Something.

Describe your recent Venture activities. What have you accomplished since selection?

We recently had a show, which was our second since we started our team 8 months ago. We have increased our team membership. Best we have seen all the kids that come to our rehearsals happy that there is no pressure to do drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.

Have you faced any difficulties? Were you able to solve them? If so, how? If not, what would have been helpful to you?

We have had the difficulty of raising money for our team's shows. We have partially solved them by getting in kind donations and selling ads in our playbill. We are working on ides for different type of fundraisers.

What upcoming plans do you have for your Venture? How will your Venture continue to benefit the community?

We are getting ready to do our third show. We have many more kids joining and we always make sure everyone that wants to be in our show is. The community will have the benefit that we are here for local kids, providing them with an activity that is positive.

Describe your relationship with your Ally and your Partner Organization.

We have a great relationship with our ally. She meets with us on a regular basis while we are rehearsing. Both our ally and our partner The Sad Cafe are very supportive of what we are doing.

Yes, we have taken advantage of the materials, especially the ones on grant writing.

What could Youth Venture do to help you even more?

I love the telephone conferences and would love to see more of them. I would love to see a better way of geting the word out that there is a conference call and doing it far enough in advance so we could leave that time slot open.
