4 days in April

Our generation has no identity. Our identity is marketed to us. That angers me. I will change this. I am our generation's unsought propoaganda.

I am working on a play about the 1968 DC riots.

I have been doing research at MLK Library and reviewing old Evening Star and Post papers from April of 1968. This play will strike a cord here and across the country.

We have forgot. We have turned a blind eye and we have put our hands over our ears. The screams are coming from the streets. America eats its babies. We can not forget this.

Memories remain as time fades

I went back to my high school today. I visted my brothers wrestling coach and we talked about when I had his class. I also visited an English teacher that I had junior year. I particpated in the creative writting club as I occassionally did during my years there. He is a good guy and I used to see him when I worked at the Avalon Theater on Conneticut Avenue.

I also visited the old security office where I sometimes found myself. Rooney is still around and Bob and Blasher. They have more problems know as the school has grown in size. More cameras and now they're digital.

Setting:

Downtown bus stop on 7th Street. 8:15 pm. Busy evening. Lots of foot traffic.

Enter Ezekiel

Ezekiel

(late 40’s, homeless man, has a stack of papers under his arm, he sells papers for Street Sense. He has a white painter’s bucket and some drum sticks with him. He is known to set up shop after a Wizards game and rock with the other street performers. He takes a seat. He begins conversation with passersby and other people waiting on the buses.

Today I began and have about 5 good pages of "Mayor 4 Life" which I will submit to the Bowie State University Short Stack Play Festival. All plays are under 30 minutes. The plays will be read in the fall at Bowie State University and the Kennedy Center.

Mayor 4 Life is about Marion Barry and the tmultous days of his arrest and aftermath in late January 1990. The play is a result of researching the archives about Marion B. They have been exteremely helpful getting primary source information.

Whats up world?

Whats up Youth Venture?

I just wanted to take the time right now to acknowledge and commend Youth Venture for the change that they are making in the lives of young adults and the change they are inspiring in our communties.

Tonight I saw Haunted Prince: The Ghost of Edwin Booth at the National Portrait Gallery, two blocks from Ford's Theatre. Edwin Booth was a famous Shakespearan actor in the US from the mid to late 19th century. It was deep.
